road/wind noise

I have a 2014srx premium it has a bad road noise I have traced it down to between the right front seat and door, my dealer has called the field service engineer and I am awaiting to see what he has to say, also called customer service they referred me back to dealer.it sort of seems like the noise is coming though the rocker box since it is hollow but covered by a plastic cover, what I can see the rocker box does have holes in it that could pickup the the road noise.

Re: road/wind noise

I would look at the weather strip to see if it is torn or defective and not providing a perfect seal. Also if the door is misaligned and not sealing good with the body of the vehicle it can cause a noise. The gap may not even be noticeable, sometimes if it is off by a hair it can do that. Most of the time with wind noise complaints I find the weatherstripping bad because it is torn or the little clips that hold it on are torn off. That is especially common around the winter time with the snow and ice build up in the door jambs and freezing. Also some of the less likely causes are missing seam sealer on some of the gaps, broken or missing welds.

Re: road/wind noise

This is interesting I pulled the fuse,25a amprdo and then drove my six ,so much quieter, it seems like the ANC system is not canceling sound but amplifying it. The normal sound of wind over the wind shield I do not get the road noise is less can not hear the engine ,but the CUE system does not work. The dealer is trying to get the field service engineer to find out how to fix it. If you are having noise problems you might pull that fuse in the console fuse board ,and see if sound goes away.

Re: road/wind noise

OSince no body would help me with the road noise,I decided to remove the rear wheel fender well liner and try some undercoat to quiet it down ,got the r/hand side done, removed l/rear liner guess what no insulation blanket on it, looks like it had been torn off and thrown away ,went to dealer parts they checked and there should be a blanket so they re placed the liner, no thought about driving to see if it was quieter. I did go for a short trip and it seemed a little quieter but still has a wind sounding noise. Will no more when it stops raining.

Re: road/wind noise

The wind sounding noise may come from the windshield itself.

I Know on my Traverse- holes on the bottom of the 'chassis' has foam coming out of it.

that is it appears that they inject that expandable foam into the crevices-and it expands slightly out of the hole.......
wonder if yours is missing the foam....

Re: road/wind noise

I think you hit the nail on the head ,my SRX has no foam in the rocker panels ,I have asked Cadillac about foaming the rocker panels and get no answer. I really can not under stand how Gm Cadillac can build should a nice driving ,handling vehicle and ignore the noises road noise they say they have a noise canceling system, but if I pull the fuse to shut that off the car is actually quieter. But that shuts off the que system to.. does Cadillac ever monitor this forum

Re: road/wind noise

We drove the car to Harrisonville,mo from Clinton. The car is a little quieter in some ways ,but that seems to make the road noise from the center post between the doors worse .I really think that the road noise is coming though the rocker box on each side though the center post of the doors and they did not foam it like other cars .I found the CTS ,pickups ,traverse ,and other GM vehicles ate using foam in unit-body vehicles rocker boxes &panels.
