2013 GMC Terrain AWD 3.6 V6 - Whining Noise, sounds like a supercharger?
Been lurking on these forums for quite a while now, first post. Unfortunately it isn't exactly a positive one, but love my vehicle other than this small problem.
Anyways, purchased a used 2013 GMC Terrain SLE-2 AWD V6, and fell in love with it. Bought it with 65,000 km, from a VW Dealership Cerified pre owned.
I love the vehicle and how it handles, and expect it to last me for years. However, one thing that drives me nuts...when I accelerate, there is a whining noise coming from the engine compartment. The best way to describe it: Sounds like a supercharger. The pitch of the whine changes with the speed of the engine. The pitch gets higher as I go through the rev ranges. Drowns out when on the highway.
Took it back to dealer I bought it from, and they took it to a tech that apparently "knows GM Vehicles".
He can hear the sound just like myself, but thinks it's normal. Two other techs there say they can't hear it at all.
At idle or sitting in gear, there is no sign of the sound. The sound happens in gear and in park/neutral when hitting the gas.
Honestly, I'm at a loss. Transmission shifts fine, no power steering loss, no loss of engine power...everything is pretty much fine except that sound. It's going to GM on Tuesday under the VWs tab, so that's nice I guess. But just want to see what I'm dealing with.
The noise is extremely noticeable and turns heads when I accelerate. It's actually embarrassing. It's been there since I purchased it.
Thanks in advance for any input!
